Metal Gear Solid ‘The Death Of Vulcan Raven’
Straight from the archives, an excerpt from the cult videogame Metal Gear Solid, in which I voiced Vulcan Raven.
Metal Gear Solid is a videogame released in 1998 on PlayStation, created by Hideo Kojima, which profoundly shaped the history of the medium. By combining innovative gameplay, cinematic staging, memorable characters and mature themes such as war, identity and the manipulation of information, the game offered an experience that was unprecedented at the time. Its ambitious narrative, bold gameplay ideas and willingness to break the fourth wall helped make it a cult classic, still cited today as a major reference in videogame history.
Who is Vulcan Raven? He is one of the most imposing members of Foxhound, an elite unit of the US special forces. A Native American shaman of colossal stature, he wields a heavy machine gun with disconcerting ease and embraces a fatalistic philosophy deeply tied to spirits and the battlefield. More than a mere soldier, he views war as a natural, almost sacred force, and regards each confrontation as a rite that reveals the true nature of men.
I've had the pleasure of being interviewed by Eklecty-City about my involvement with this game.
