Narration Documentary ‘Shimane’
Documentary ‘The Magnificent Landscapes of Shimane’ for Japan’s Shimane Prefecture, for which I recorded the narration.
Shimane is a quiet prefecture of Japan where ancient shrines, castles and coastal landscapes coexist. Izumo-taisha, one of the country’s great Shinto sanctuaries, hosts each year the ‘Kamiari’ ritual - the month when it is said that all the deities gather in the region.
Living tradition also thrives through popular festivals: the Iwami area is known for Iwami Kagura, sacred dance and ritual theatre performances often held during autumn celebrations.
On the Oki Islands, local ceremonies - traditional dances and ritual festivals such as the Goree-furyū - preserve age-old forms of music and performing arts.
Shimane stands out for its blend of rites, folklore and serene landscapes that shape local life throughout the year.
